What's Happening at Christmas:

Services

Wednesday Morning service

There is an on-line service at 11.00 am on Wednesday. The format of the service is readings with pauses, a led meditation, a psalm and prayers, with some music at the beginning and the end.  This is followed by time to chat over a cup of coffee – very sociable even on Zoom! The link to this service will be sent on Tuesday.

Thursday 24th December   Christmas Eve

Our special online re-telling of the Christmas story, with carols, readings and prayers, will be available  from 4.00 pm today - click on the Christingles above to watch!

Our collection at the Christmas day service is for the Children's Society - if you would like to donate, please see the instructions under 'Charities at Christmas', on the Weekly Newsletter page.

If you would like to make a Christingle, Imogen has made a video showing how to do it!

Zoom coffee meeting

There will be a short - about 20 minutes - Zoom coffee meeting after this service, just so that we can all say Happy Christmas to each other. The link will be sent to you all by email on Thursday. The host (Clare this time) will open the Zoom meeting 5 minutes after the broadcast service ends.  Look forward to seeing you!

Community Carol Singing  We regret that we have not been able to organise carol singing in the parish this week, as we did not have enough volunteer stewards to ensure that it could be done safely. Why not try singing with your neighbours in a street carolling session?

Christingle Our re-telling of the Christmas story, with carols and prayers, will be available on YouTube from 4.00 pm on Christmas Eve. At our Christingle services, we always collect money to help the vital work of the Children's Society - if you would like to donate, please send your donations directly to the St Andrews Psalter Lane Church bank account:

Account name St Andrews Psalter Lane

Sort code 05-08-08

Account number 3693-0499

with the reference Christmas Giving, and send an email to the Church Office to say it is for the Children's Society.

OR send a cheque made out to St Andrews Psalter Lane Church to the Church Office, Shirley House, 31 Psalter Lane, Sheffield S11 8YL, enclosing a note to say it is for the Children's Society.

The Ultimate Online Advent Calendar  We are excited about Christmas and to bring some Christmas cheer this Advent, we are launching the Ultimate Online Advent Calendar! Every day from 1 December until Christmas Eve there will be a new video to bring some Advent Calendar action, a daily dose of chocolate and a meaningful reflection for young people, or anyone for that matter!

The Ultimate Online Advent Calendar is a joint project between Chester, Manchester, and Sheffield Dioceses and will make the long wait for the festivities of Christmas that little bit easier, and create the opportunity to think about some important Advent themes, with a bit of chocolate thrown in too.

Follow the Ultimate Online Advent Calendar here and check out the hilarious trailer from Youth Officer Susie Mapledoram on Southport beach.

Susie said:  “The Ultimate Online Advent Calendar is a joint project with our friends in Chester and Sheffield Dioceses and is designed to use in youth groups and schools, as well as share across our social media platforms each day through to the last instalment on 24 December. “

Christian Aid carol singing in Sheffield is going virtual (another advent calendar)!  Christian Aid in Sheffield have a carol singing YouTube channel during December and would love to have videos of 24 different carols, one for each day leading up to Christmas day – a sort of "carols advent calendar". People watching the videos will be invited to donate to Christian Aid via a JustGiving Page

Sheffield Carols Virtual Grand Sing This happened on Saturday 28th November at 7.30pm using Zoom, FaceBook and YouTube - the video should soon be available! Find out more here.
