ST ANDREWS PSALTER LANE

ANNUAL CHURCH MEETING 2024

JUSTICE AND PEACE REPORT

St Andrews Psalter Lane has welcomed the encouragement from the Methodist Church nationally to become a Justice Seeking Church.

Following years of interest and concern about the situation of asylum seekers and refugees, the church is now actively preparing to become a church of sanctuary, under the auspices of the City of Sanctuary movement. From an initial service led by Red Inderjit Bhogal, work has been done in house groups to understand the implications of this.

The other major concern recognised within the church has been the ongoing situation in Palestine, and particularly in Gaza. This has been reflected in notices and requests for prayers. A number of church members were able to attend the lunch at St Aidan’s church held in conjunction with the Amos Trust in December.

The issue of food poverty has also been a focus at St Andrews as preparations were made for the Breadline exhibition at Highfield Trinity Church.

During the course of the year, there has been support for the annual Christian Aid collection and, as usual, donations were made to HARC in lieu of Christmas cards. Collections were also made for Action for Children and for the Children’s Society.

It is hoped that during 2024 we will be able to hold occasional discussion lunches to develop understanding of justice and peace issues.
