A Report on Children’s Work
The past year has had some highs and lows in providing for our children. The biggest positive is how much the children are enjoying coming to church,
sharing fellowship with one another and beginning to learn about their own faith.
The small group of parents and helpers who are now co-ordinating this continue to find it hard work and draining of their energy.
There has been some wonderful All Age Worship, with the children now old enough to contribute to and benefit from worship with the whole congregation.
Our pancake party was a big success, with 15 children, 15 adults and 70 pancakes!
Our hopes and aims for the coming year:
- Find someone who will get energy from spending time with our lovely children who can co-ordinate the organisation of the children’s activities. The parents are happy to help, but struggle to bring the fresh energy that the children would thrive on.
- Refurbish the back room with new storage, seating and furnishings to make it a welcoming, fun and children friendly space.
- Create a permanent space in the nave of the church for children with books, tables and crafts with which they can be quietly occupied during a service. (The children already do this, but are expected to sit on the floor amongst the congregation.)
This will mean removing some chairs and replacing with tables and cushions. This space will also make families feel more welcome in our church and demonstrate to visitors that we have children in our congregation.
- Run some more family events to which we are able to invite the wider community of families who are unable to attend regularly on a Sunday morning. These will require help from the congregation!
- Find more ways to involve the children in the regular life of the church, such as welcoming, serving coffee, doing readings.
