Heritage Open Days 2018
Behind the Scenes Tour: Saturday 8th September 10.00 am - 12.00 noon
Have you ever wondered what goes on ‘backstage’ in a church? What is all that silver for? Why do the ministers wear different colours? And what do all the buttons on the organ actually do?
Now is your chance to find out! Get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the bits of the church that are usually out of sight – look at the ministers’ vestments, get ‘hands on’ with the silver, visit the flower arrangers’ room and the choir vestry – whether you’re an interested newcomer or a regular church-goer, there’s sure to be plenty to learn!
The tour will include a short demonstration of the organ, a look round our garden and a visit to Shirley House to see the Church Office, the Interfaith Room, the impressive staircase and stained glass window and the War Memorial from the old St Andrew’s parish church, before returning to church for a visit to the kitchen for some welcome refreshments.
Places are limited, so book yours now!
Art Activity Afternoon: Saturday 8th September 2.00 - 4.00 pm
Unleash your inner creativity - let our stunning New Creation window inspire you to make your own masterpiece!
We'll be providing the art and craft supplies for you to create your own interpretation of the beautiful New Creation Window, designed by Rona Moody as part of our major modernization and refurbishment work.
With paper and paint and much, much more to work with, what will you make? It could be a simple bookmark, a card for someone you love, or a bright stained glass-effect window poster!
The afternoon is open to everyone, young and old, and no artistic talent or skill is required - just the ability to enjoy yourself!
Refreshments will be provided.
As part of the annual Heritage Open Days festival, the church will also be open for several days over two weekends in September. Take a short tour of the church, chat to our stewards about our history or simply enjoy the quiet space and wonderful light of our building.
Come and see our beautiful New Creation Window, designed by Rona Moody as part of major modernization and refurbishment work. Within this light and spacious church you may also find our rare Bernard Rice window (the Lady and the Lamp) and William Morris window.
